Kasey Wyatt's final race this season.
Still suffering from a suspected broken scaphoid (sustained at Silverstone), it was a pale and sore “Tadpole” that came away from the medical team, after being passed fit to ride, following the Doctors ‘exercises’.
The weather on Friday and Saturday was seasonally changeable and free practice and qualifying was held in mixed conditions. With a glut of super-fast riders returning from Grand Prix and ‘Red Bull Rookies’ duty, the grid featured 46 rides. Kasey put in some great performances with 28th in Q1 and a starting position of 38 following a few mechanical issues in Q2.
The race started in fierce fashion and the British Superbike “tiddlers” laid on a frantic battle throughout the field. Kasey held his starting position, despite avoiding a crash on the first turn and steadily made good progress; with some great out–braking manoeuvre’s into turn 1. The result was a credible 28th and 5 more Academy cup points for his seasons tally in his first year at British Championship Level.
Following the race, Kasey said: “It has been a tough year, but I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Learning how to get on the pace of these guys has been a real eye opener, but I am half way there now and determined to get amongst them next year. I would just like to say a huge thank-you to all of my sponsors, particularly Global Reach Partners and to thank Gary Dawson and Dave Cherry of Replicast UK Racing. Without them, none of this would be possible”.
